The New York Mets and the Colorado Rockies face off on Tuesday at Citi Field for game two of their series.
The New York Mets never quit on Monday and grabbed a walk off win. David Wright had two hits and Lucas Duda and Curtis Granderson each had hits as the Mets scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Jon Niese allowed eight hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to not get a decision as Carlos Torres got the win to go to 7-5 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Mets start Jacob deGrom who has won six of his last seven decisions. For the season deGrom has allowed 104 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 112 over 119.1 innings for a 7-6 record and a 2.79 ERA.
The Colorado Rockies showed once again why they have the worst record in the National League as they blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth inning on Monday to turn a win into a loss. Nolam Arenado and Michael Cuddyer each hit home runs and Josh Rutledge and D.J. LeMahieu each had two hits as the Rockies scored two runs on none hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Lyles allowed three hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings but LaTroy Hawkins blew the save and took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Rockies start Christian Bergman who has won his last two decisions. For the season Bergman has allowed 43 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 16 over 32.2 innings for a 2-2 record and a 5.23 ERA.
New York is 5-1 in their last six games, 2-4 against the NL West, and 7-2 in deGrom’s last nine starts. Colorado is 4-1 in their last five games, 14-40 as an underdog, and 11-41 in their last 52 road games. Colorado is 17-36 in their last 53 games in New York.
I got on deGrom early this season and I am staying with him until the end as I like him and the Mets to take this one.
