New York Mets +117 / New York Yankees -137
The New York Yankees and the New York Mets meet in game one of a two game Subway Series in MLB action from Citi Field on Tuesday night.
The New York Yankees will look to keep their momentum going after winning five in a row following a two game sweep of the Boston Red Sox in Europe over the weekend, culminating in a 12-8 win on Sunday. Gio Urshela had three RBIs while DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez each had two RBIs with LeMahieu going 3 for 6 with a pair of doubles while Hicks went 2 for 5 with a double of his own. Didi Gregorius had a solo home run while Brett Gardner added a base hit of his own to finish off the Yankees’ scoring as a team in the victory. Stephen Tarpley gave up four runs on four hits over a single inning of work, not factoring in the decision. Adam Ottavino picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-2 on the year. James Paxton will start game one and is 5-3 with a 4.34 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Paxton is 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA and 9 strikeouts against the Mets.
The New York Mets will look to build some momentum after snapping a seven game losing streak with a series-closing 8-5 win over Atlanta, avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Braves in the process. Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso and Todd Frazier each had two RBIs with Frazier hitting a home run while McNeil went 3 for 5 at the dish and Alonso added a double. J.D. Davis went 3 for 5 with an RBI while Amed Rosario added an RBI of his own to round out the Mets’ scoring in the win. Robinson Cano went 2 for 3 at the plate as well in the victory for the Mets. Noah Syndergaard gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring into the decision. Wilmer Font got the win to improve to 1-2 on the year while Edwin Diaz picked up his 17th save of the season. Zack Wheeler will start game one and is 6-5 with a 4.51 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wheeler is 0-1 with a 10.00 ERA and 8 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The Yankees are 8-2 in Paxton’s last 10 starts and 46-18 in their last 64 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against the NL East. The Mets are 1-4 in Wheeler’s last 5 starts against a team with a winning record and 1-10 in their last 11 series opening matchups while the over is 5-1-2 in their last 8 interleague games. The Yankees are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Citi Field.
The Mets and the plus money is kind of tempting given the fact that the Mets finally got a win under their belt, and now catch the Yankees who are probably coming back with some jet lag having just played in London just over 48 hours earlier. Paxton has also had some issues in a small sample size against the Mets and is fresh off of a start in which he allowed six runs in 4.1 innings of work, his second six-plus run start in his last four. However, even with the travel, this is still a very good price given the recent form of these two teams. The Mets recently lost seven in a row while the Yankees have won five straight and 13 of their last 14 games. I’ll gladly lay the juice with the Yankees in this spot.
