New York, New York
New York Mets -122 / Philadelphia Phillies +112 O/U: 8.5
The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets will match up for game two of their early-week MLB series on Tuesday.
In Monday’s opener of this set, the Mets banged out a 5-1 win, out-hitting Philly 9-3 on the evening.
For the Tuesday game, the Phillies will be bringing out RHP Zach Eflin. In his 22.0 innings and 2-2 record this season, Eflin has a 3.68 ERA with 20 Ks and four walks.
The Phillies could only muster three hits on the night Monday, but one of those was a Rhys Hoskins solo homer.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re sending out Zach Wheeler on Tuesday. Over 22.2 innings and a 1-2 mark thus far, Wheeler has a 6.35 ERA with 22 Ks and 14 walks.
The Mets sprinkled in runs over three innings in Monday’s win, Jeff McNeil went yard for New York in that one, and had two hits on the night.
The Phillies are 1-5 in their last six in game two of a series and 4-1 in Eflin’s last five Tuesday starts. Philly is 1-8 in Eflin’s last nine road starts and 0-4 in his last four starts in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 8-2 in their last 10 in game two of a series and 15-36 in their last 51 Tuesday games. New York is 6-2 in Wheeler’s last eight home starts and 12-5 in his last 17 starts overall.
Back on April 13 versus Miami, Eflin had a rough go of things with six earned on 10 hits in just 4.0 innings. Aside from that one however, Eflin has been great this year with a total of three earned across 18.0 innings in his last three starts.
Wheeler has two straight quality starts (five earned; 13.0 innings) in his last pair however, so this might be a pretty good pitching matchup. All things considered, I like Eflin to help power the Phillies to a win but it could be close.
