The Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Mets will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Friday.

Pittsburgh is coming out of a set against the Cardinals this week. The Pirates fell in the first three games 6-5, 4-3 and 14-8. In the Thursday finale, Pittsburgh was swept with a 6-3 loss.

For Friday’s game, the Pirates will be sending out Dario Agrazal in the start. Over 28.0 innings and a 2-0 record this year, Agrazal has a 2.25 ERA with 12 Ks and 10 BBs.

Over on the Mets’ side, they just finished against the Padres. New York won 5-2 on Tuesday but fell 7-2 in the Wednesday game. In the Thursday rubber match, the Mets banged out a 4-0 win.

New York is bringing out Zack Wheeler in the start Friday. Over his 119.0 innings and 6-6 mark so far, Wheeler has a 4.69 ERA with 130 Ks and 34 BBs.

Pittsburgh is 7-19 in their last 26 in game one of a series and 3-7 in their last 10 versus the NL East. The under is also 4-1 in Pittsburgh’s last five Friday games and 4-1 in their last five versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Mets are 0-4 in their last four Friday games and 5-1 in Wheeler’s last six home starts. New York is 4-1 in Wheeler’s last five Friday starts and 3-11 in his last 14 versus the NL Central.

Agrazal doesn’t have a huge body of MLB work to go off of, but the early returns are strong. He’s got four straight quality starts, giving up just five earned in a total of 24.0 innings there.

As for Wheeler, he had a string of three straight quality outings snapped in his last appearance (six earned in 5.0 innings) and is just 1-3 since June began.

I like Agrazal to keep it going here so I’m taking the Pirates.
