New York Mets +112 / San Diego Padres -122 O/U: 8
The San Diego Padres will visit the New York Mets in MLB activity as they kick off their series on Tuesday.
San Diego is coming off a weekend set against the Cubs. The Padres fell 6-5 Friday and 6-5 on Saturday, but were able to avoid the sweep with a 5-1 win on Sunday in the finale.
For Tuesday’s game, the Padres will send out Chris Paddack in the start. Across 90.0 innings and a 6-4 record this year, Paddack has a 2.70 ERA with 95 Ks and 19 BBs.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Giants. New York managed a victory on Saturday, but otherwise fell 3-2 Thursday, 1-0 Friday and 3-2 on Sunday for a series loss.
Jason Vargas will be taking the hill for the Mets on Tuesday. Across 82.2 innings and a 4-5 record this year, Vargas has a 4.25 ERA with 68 Ks and 32 BBs.
The Padres are 2-7 in their last nine overall and 1-7 in their last eight versus the NL East. San Diego is 0-5 in their last five in game one of a series and 4-1 in Paddack’s last five starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 4-9 in their last 13 games after a loss. New York is 3-7 in Vargas’ last 10 Tuesday starts and 1-6 in his last seven versus the NL West.
Paddack has some pretty good numbers lately. Across his last three outings, he’s got two quality starts and just two earned runs over 19.1 innings of work. Paddack is 2-0 in that time.
As for Vargas, he coughed up six earned in 5.0 innings in Miami but bounced back with a win his last time up on three earned in 6.0 innings.
I think Vargas should pitch well here but I can’t trust the Mets offense for much of anything right now. I’m going Padres.
