The St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets meet in game three of their four game set in MLB action from Citi Field on Saturday.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to win the set and push for a sweep on Sunday after taking the first two games of the set following a 9-5 victory in game two on Friday. Dexter Fowler and Jose Martinez each had a home run and three RBIs while Paul DeJong added a solo homer. Matt Carpenter had a double and an RBI while Kolten Wong had an RBI as well to cap off St. Louis’ offense as a team in the winning effort. Yadier Molina and Tommy Edman each chipped in a double to finish off the Cardinals’ offense as a team in the victory. Daniel Ponce de Leon gave up one run on two hits while walking four and striking out three, not factoring in the decision, while John Gant got the win in relief to improve to 6-0 on the year. Michael Wacha will start game three and is 4-2 with a 5.62 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wacha is 5-2 with a 2.53 ERA and 44 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look to bounce back and get on the board after dropping game two on Friday. Wilson Ramos had two RBIS while Steven Matz went 2 for 2 with a solo homer. Pete Alonso had a double and an RBI while Todd Frazier contributed an RBI to finish off New York’s scoring as a team in the loss. Jeff McNeil went 2 for 5 while Michael Conforto and Amed Rosario each chipped in base hits as well in the defeat. Matz gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while Jeurys Familia ended up with the defeat to fall to 2-1 on the year. Noah Syndergaard will start game three and is 4-4 with a 4.45 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. In his career, Syndergaard is 1-3 with a 3.73 ERA and 36 strikeouts against St. Louis.

St. Louis is 2-8 in their last 10 game three matchups and 11-4 in Wacha’s last 15 starts against the NL East while the over is 5-1 in Wacha’s last 6 Saturday starts. New York is 1-4 in Syndergaard’s last 5 starts and 13-5 in their last 18 home games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against the NL Central. St. Louis is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in Wacha’s last 5 starts against New York while the Mets are 1-4 in Syndergaard’s last 5 starts against St. Louis.

Syndergaard is coming off of one of his better starts of the year last time out, throwing seven innings of one hit shutout baseball. However, the Mets have been thoroughly outplayed in the first two games of the set, and Wacha is fresh off of six shutout innings of his own. There’s also the fact that Wacha has enjoyed a lot of success in his career against the Mets, while Thor has had issues against St. Louis. Based on how the first two games of the series has gone, I think St. Louis holds some solid value as a dog on Saturday so I’ll take the plus money with the Cardinals in this one.
