New York, New York
New York Mets -108 / St. Louis Cardinals -102 O/U: 9
The St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets will match up on the MLB diamond to finish off their series on Sunday.
The Cardinals took the first two games of this set, 5-4 Thursday and 9-5 Friday. In the Saturday game, the Mets managed to hang on for an 8-7 win.
For Sunday’s matchup, the Cardinals will be sending out Dakota Hudson in the start. Over his 72.2 innings and 5-3 record this year, Hudson has a 3.47 ERA with 51 Ks and 33 BBs.
The Cards put up 12 hits in the Saturday game. Paul DeJong led the way for St. Louis with three hits, one RBI and one run.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re going with Jason Vargas on Sunday. Across 51.1 innings and a 3-3 record this year, Vargas has a 3.68 ERA with 40 Ks and 21 BBs.
New York’s offense managed 10 hits on Saturday, and scored five runs in the first inning alone. JD Davis logged four hits with three runs and a solo homer in the victory.
The Cardinals are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and 5-0 in Hudson’s last five starts. The under is 4-0 in St. Louis’ last four Sunday games and 4-1 in Hudson’s last five starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 12-5 in Vargas’ last 17 starts and 6-1 in his last seven home starts. New York is 3-7 in their last 10 Sunday games and 3-8 in Vargas’ last 11 starts with four days’ rest.
Hudson has been on a hot streak lately. He’s sitting on six straight quality starts, allowing a total of 10 earned in 37.2 innings during that stretch and hasn’t lost a game since May 7.
As for Vargas, he’s rolling as well with just five earned over his last four starts in 27.0 innings, and a 2-1 mark during that time.
This should be a great pitching matchup and a close game I’m staying away from. That said, I think Hudson can help the Cards eke one out in the finale.
