The Line: New York Yankees -167 / Atlanta Braves +157 --- Over/Under: 9.5
Out at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In the Monday opener of this set, the Braves took an extra-innings win 5-3 across 11 frames.
For Tuesday’s game, the Braves will be going with lefty Sean Newcomb. In his 93.0 innings and 8-2 record this year, Newcomb has a 2.71 ERA with 90 Ks and 40 BBs.
Nick Markakis leads the way for the Braves in hitting this year, coming into this set with 104 hits, 50 runs and 56 RBI. On Monday, Markakis had two hits and a run.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with Domingo German on Tuesday. Across 64.1 innings and a 2-4 record this year, German has a 5.32 ERA with 75 Ks and 21 BBs.
Giancarlo Stanton is tops in the Yankee lineup in hitting this year, entering this set on 83 hits, 48 runs, 19 homers and 46 RBI. On Monday, Stanton managed one hit.
The Braves are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series. Atlanta is 5-2 in Newcomb’s last seven road starts and 5-1 in his last six starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games and 14-6 in their last 20 in game two of a series. New York is also 4-1 in German’s last five home starts and the under is 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games.
Newcomb has been pitching pretty well lately, as he’s got five quality starts in his last six outings, and four combined earned runs over his last three. As for German, he’s been decent if not a little choppy (six earned in 3.0 innings in Tampa). I’m not super high on German, so this might be a good spot to pick the Braves.
