New York Yankees -250 / Baltimore Orioles +230 -- O/U: 9
The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees meet in an AL East division matchup in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to come out strong after having the series opener on Tuesday postponed, but will look to build some momentum after salvaging a 5-1 win against the Angels in their series finale on Sunday. Dwight Smith Jr. went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs while Chris Davis, Stevie Wilkerson and Pedro Severino each had a solo home run to round out Baltimore’s scoring as a team in the win. Jonathan Villar went 2 for 4 while Trey Mancini and Rio Ruiz had a base knock as well in the victory. John Means got the win to improve to 5-3 on the year after allowing one run on four hits while walking three and striking out four over six innings of work. Andrew Cashner will start game two and is 4-1 with a 4.25 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cashner is 2-4 with a 4.01 ERA and 35 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees will look to keep their momentum going after winning their series with Tampa Bay, including a 7-1 win in the series finale on Sunday. Gio Urshela went 1 for 5 with a double and two RBIs while Theiro Estrada has a solo home run. Mike Tauchman went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Brett Gardner and DJ LeMahieu each had an RBI and Austin Romine went 2 for 4 with a double of his own to cap off New York’s offense as a team in the win. Masahiro Tanaka got the win to improve to 3-3 this season after allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven over seven innings of work. Domingo German will start game two and is 7-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 44 strikeouts this season. This will be German’s second career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 29-86 in their last 115 road games and 23-53 in their last 76 division games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. New York is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 86-42 in their last 128 home games while the over is 19-7-1 in their last 27 division games. Baltimore is 3-10 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
It’s hard to lay this kind of juice especially when we don't know how game one went and it’s also tempting to get plus money with Cashner who has been one of the better arms for Baltimore this season and gave the O’s a real chance to beat the Red Sox in his last start. However, all German appears to do for the Yankees is win games, and while this could turn out to be a pitchers’ duel, Cashner allowed six runs in his first start against New York this season and I just think the Yankees have the better lineup. Side by side, German is the better pitcher here, so I’ll side with the Yankees on the RL to squeeze some value out of the pick.
