On Wednesday from Yankee Stadium, the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees will be concluding their two-game MLB set.
In the opener on Tuesday, New York scored four times in the fifth inning on the way to a 6-3 win.
For Wednesday’s game, the Orioles will be bringing out RHP Alex Cobb. In his 103.2 innings and 2-14 record this year, Cobb has a 6.08 ERA with 69 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the O’s this year is Adam Jones, with 117 hits, 41 runs, 11 homers and 44 RBI coming into this set. On Tuesday, Jones had one hit.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re rolling out Sonny Gray on Wednesday. Across 101.0 innings and an 8-7 record this year, Gray has a 5.08 ERA with 96 Ks and 44 walks.
Giancarlo Stanton leads the way for the Yankees this season on 113 hits, 64 runs, 24 homers and 64 RBI coming into game one. On Tuesday, Stanton had one run.
The Orioles are 17-43 in their last 60 in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Baltimore is also 1-4 in Cobb’s last five road starts and 3-16 in his last 19 starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 36-15 in their last 51 Wednesday games and 39-19 in their last 58 in game two of a series. New York is 4-1 in Gray’s last five home starts versus a team with a losing record and 6-2 in his last eight starts versus a team with a losing record.
Cobb has certainly been choppy this year—to say the least—but he does have three quality starts in his last five, and in his three most recent starts he’s allowed a total of six earned. Gray has been solid over is last three starts (one of which was in Baltimore), giving up two earned total in that span. This is a perfect opportunity for Gray to keep it going, so I’m taking the Yankees here.
