The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees will finish up their MLB series on Sunday from Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees posted a pretty wild 10-8 win on Friday, then in game two Saturday New York clinched a playoff spot with a 3-2 win in 11 innings.
For the Sunday game, the Orioles will be bringing out RHP Alex Cobb. Across his 152.1 innings and 5-15 record this year, Cobb has a 4.90 ERA with 102 Ks.
Leading the way for the O’s in hitting this year is Adam Jones, who came into the weekend on 156 hits, 53 runs, 15 homers and 60 RBI. On Saturday, Jones came up empty.
Over on the Yanks’ side, they’re going with JA Happ on Sunday. Across his 166.2 innings and 16-6 mark this year, Happ has a 3.62 ERA with 179 Ks and 47 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Yankees is Miguel Andujar, who came into game two on 158 hits, 78 runs, 25 homers and 84 RBI. On Saturday, Andujar had two more hits.
The Orioles are 15-36 in their last 51 in game three of a series and 1-5 in their last six Sunday games. The over is 12-3-1 in Baltimore’s last 16 Sunday games and 7-2 in their last nine versus a left-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 0-5 in their last five in game three of a series and 8-1 in Happ’s last nine starts. New York is 4-0 in Happ’s last four starts versus the AL East and 5-1 in his last six home starts.
Happ gets the honor of starting the Yankees’ final regular-season home game, and he certainly deserves it. Since joining New York, he’s 6-0 with a 2.39 ERA in nine starts, and the Yankees are 8-1 as a club in those appearances. I really don’t see any reason to pick against New York here.
