New York, New York
New York Yankees -118 / Boston Red Sox +108 O/U: 9.5
The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will meet up on the MLB circuit to continue their rivalry series on Saturday.
After a rainout and postponement Thursday (that one will be made up in August), in the Friday opener, New York banged out a 4-1 victory to fire the first shot in the series.
For the Saturday game, the Red Sox will be sending out Rick Porcello. Across his 4-4 mark this year, Porcello has a 4.41 ERA with 51 strikeouts to his credit.
The Sox had a few opportunities in the Friday game, but only one player had more than one hit. Jackie Bradley finished 2-for-3 in that one.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with Domingo German in the Saturday matchup. Over his 60.1 innings and 9-1 mark this year, German has a 3.43 ERA with 63 Ks and 16 BBs.
New York popped eight hits in the Friday win and made the most of their opportunities. Gio Urshela had another great game for the Yanks, with two hits and a run. DJ LeMahieu also popped a double and a solo homer.
The Red Sox are 4-10 in their last 14 Saturday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. The over is 5-2 in Boston’s last seven in game two of a series and 7-3-1 in their last 11 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 6-1 in German’s last seven starts and 4-1 in his last five with five days’ rest. New York is 6-2 in German’s last eight home starts and 6-0 in his last six versus the AL East.
German was cruising along pretty well heading into his last start, with just six earned combined across four outings and a nice six-game win streak to boot. Then the Royals happened, and he coughed up seven earned on nine hits in 5.0 innings. German still managed a no-decision however, as the offense usually plays pretty well behind him.
Optimally, German will last 6.0 innings or so and the Yankees will turn it over to the bullpen to close things up. I’m willing to write off German’s last start as a hiccup and take New York in what’ll probably be a really close and fun game to watch.
