The Line: New York Yankees -120 / Boston Red Sox +100 --- Over/Under: 9
The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees renew their rivalry once more in game one of a three game set from Yankee Stadium in MLB action on Friday.
The Boston Red Sox will look to stay hot after winning four straight and six of their last seven games after completing the three game sweep of the Angels, including a 4-2 win in the series finale on Thursday. Jackie Bradley Jr. led the BoSox by going 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Rafael Devers added a solo home run and Brock Holt chipped in an RBI as well in the win. Mitch Moreland and Xander Bogaerts each contributed a double while Christian Vazquez went 2 for 3 and Mookie Betts added a base hit as well in the victory. Brian Johnson gave up one run over four innings, not factoring in the decision while Hector Velasquez picked up the win in relief to improve to 6-0 this season and Craig Kimberly struck out three in the 9th for his 24th save of the year. Eduardo Rodriguez will start game one and is 9-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. In his career, Rodriguez is 4-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 42 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees will look to rebound after failing to complete the three game sweep of the Phillies following a 3-0 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. Aaron Hicks went 2 for 4 while Didi Gregorius and Miguel Andujar each added a base hit as the Yanks mustered up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Luis Cessa took the loss after giving up all three runs on five hits over three innings of work to fall to 0-1 this season. CC Sabathia will start the opener and is 4-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 61 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sabathia is 17-13 with a 4.20 ERA and 226 strikeouts against Boston.
Boston is 7-0 in Rodriguez’s last 7 road starts and 4-0 in their last 4 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 division matchups. New York is 2-5 in Sabathia’s last 7 division starts and 0-4 in their last 4 division matchups while the under is 21-4-1 in their last 26 games overall. New York is 5-1 in Sabathia’s last 6 starts against Boston.
New York is worth a look considering you rarely get a low line with the Bronx Bombers at home and have had success against Boston with Sabathia on the bump. However, something even more rare is getting Boston at plus or even money with a strong arm like Rodriguez on the mound. Rodriguez hit a snag in his last start, giving up five runs, four earned, against Seattle, but before that, Rodriguez won his last six starts and held the Yankees to five shutout innings earlier this season. I’ll take a chance with Boston and the even money on Friday.
