New York, New York
New York Yankees -134 / Boston Red Sox +124 O/U: 10.5
The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off a weekend rivalry series Friday.
The Red Sox just finished up a set against the Rays. In that one, Boston lost the first pair 6-5 and 8-5. In the finale on Thursday, the Red Sox fell 9-4.
For Friday’s game the Sox will send out Eduardo Rodriguez for the start. Over his 128.2 innings and 13-4 mark so far, Rodriguez has a 4.13 ERA with 131 Ks and 44 BBs.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they played the Diamondbacks this week. New York split that pair, falling 4-2 Tuesday and 7-5 Wednesday.
In the Friday opener, the Yankees will send out James Paxton in the start. Paxton is 5-6 this year with a 4.72 ERA and 117 strikeouts.
The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 10-3 in their last 13 in game one of a series. Boston is 6-0 in Rodriguez’s last six Friday starts and 40-11 in his last 51 starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 17-5 in their last 22 Friday games and 9-4 in their last 13 after an off day. New York is 0-5 in Paxton’s last five starts and 1-4 in his last five versus the AL East.
Rodriguez has been pitching really well over his last 11 starts—he’s 8-1 with a pretty nice 3.03 ERA during that time. He bagged a win versus the Yankees last weekend.
As for Paxton, he gave up seven runs with no walks and nine strikeouts in a weird outing versus the Sox his last time up.
Seeing as how the Yankees are in a state of flux with their starters, I can’t really throw much juice that way. Boston isn’t much of a better option but they’re an experienced, plucky team that will step up to the big stage here. I’m going Red Sox.
