The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians face of on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium for game one of their series.
The New York Yankees came out swinging and scored double digits beating the Indians on Friday. Carlos Beltran hit a home run, Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, and Derek Jeter and Bret Gardener each had hits as the Yankees scored 10 runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Esmil Rogers allowed four hits and a run while striking out three over 5.0 innings to get the win. For Saturday’s game the Yankees start bRandon McCarthy who has won his last four starts. Since being traded to the Yankees McCarthy has allowed 33 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 28 over 30.1 innings for a 4-0 record and a 2.08 ERA.
The Cleveland Indians tried to chip away at the Yankees lead on Friday but they never were able to catch up as they took the loss. Carlos Santana had three hits and Jason Kipnis, Michael Brantley, and Roberto Perez each had two hits as the Indians scored six runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Trevor Bauer allowed six hits and five runs while striking out three over 3.1 innings to not factor in the decision as John Axford allowed four runs o just one hit to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Indians start Corey Kluber who has been Cleveland’s best pitcher this season, For the year Kluber has allowed 144 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 177 over 165.2 innings for a 12-6 record and a 2.55 ERA.
New York is 6-1 in their last seven games, 11-4 in their last 15 home games, and 5-0 in McCarthy’s last five starts. Cleveland is 9-3 in game two of a series, 1-7 in their last eight road games, and 5-1 in Kluber’s last six starts. Cleveland is 16-41 in their last 57 games in New York.
Neither of these pitchers are giving in much and I expect this one to be low scoring making my free pick the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
