The Colorado Rockies and the New York Yankees will meet up on the MLB diamond to finish their series on Sunday.
In the Friday opener, the Yankees pulled off an 8-2 victory. On Saturday, New York kept it going (without homering, oddly enough) in an 11-5 win.
For the Sunday game, the Rockies will be bringing out German Marquez in the start. Over his 130.0 innings and 8-5 record this year, Marquez has a 5.12 ERA with 128 Ks and 28 BBs.
Colorado posted seven hits int he Saturday loss, but could only score in the sixth inning. Trevor Story finished with two hits, a double, an RBI and a run there.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with James Paxton in the start Sunday. Across 82.1 innings and a 5-4 mark so far, Paxton has a 3.94 ERA with 102 Ks and 32 BBs.
New York played relative small-ball in their 14-hit victory Saturday. The Yankees’ Edwin Encarnacion kept his hot streak going with two hits and three RBI.
The Rockies are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and 5-2 in Marquez’s last seven Sunday starts. Colorado is 2-5 in Marquez’s last seven road starts and 1-4 in his last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 16-5 in their last 21 in game three of a series and 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games. New York is 6-2 in Paxton’s last eight home starts and 8-3 in his last 11 on grass.
Marquez had some stumbles (to say the least) in his last outing, coughing up 11 runs on 11 hits in just 2.2 innings. That makes 19 earned in 14.2 innings over his last three starts.
As for Paxton, he has three straight quality starts to his credit, with five earned in 18.0 innings. I can’t find a lot of reasons not to take the Yankees here.
