MLB | Detroit Tigers (62-48) at New York Yankees (58-54)

The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers face off on Wednesday for game three of their series.

The New York Yankees were unable to hold on to a late lead and lost in extra innings on Tuesday. Brian McCann and Martin Prado each hit home runs and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits as the Yankees scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda allowed six hits and three runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not factor it he decision as mat Daley took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Yankees Start Chris Capuano who is still looking for his first win as a Yankee. For the season Capuanp has allowed 13 hits and six runs while striking out nine over 12.1 innings for an 0-1 record and a 4.38 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers couldn’t rally as they lost on Monday but on Tuesday they rallied late and got the win in extra innings. Alex Avila and Andrew Romine hit home runs and Victor Martinez had two hits as the Tigers scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher David Price allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out 10 over 8.2 innings to not get a decision as Joakim Soria got the win to go to 2-4 for the season and Joe Nathan earned his 23rd save. For Wednesday’s game the Tigers start Justin Verlander who has won four of his last six starts. For the season Verlander has allowed 162 hits and 78 earned runs while striking out 110 over 150.2 innings for a 10-9 record and a 4.66 ERA.

New York is 4-1 at home against a right-handed starter, 8-4 in their last 12 home games, and 3-14 as a home underdog. Detroit is 1-4 in their last five road games, 1-4 against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Verlander’s last five starts as a favorite. Detroit is 2-4 in the last six meetings of these two.

I am expecting a lot more offense than we have seen in the first two games of this series so my free pick is the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
