New York, New York
New York Yankees -152 / Minnesota Twins +142 O/U: 8
The Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees will kick off their MLB series on Friday.
Minnesota comes into this one fresh off a series versus the Astros. The Twins took a 1-0 win Monday, then lost 11-0 Tuesday before snagging victories in the final pair 6-2 and 8-2 to take the set.
For Friday’s game, the Twins will be sending out Kyle Gibson in the start. Over his 27.2 innings and 2-0 record this year, Gibson has a 4.88 ERA with 24 Ks and eight walks.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they played the Diamondbacks this week at the tail end of a West Coast road trip. New York dropped those two games however, falling 3-1 and 3-2.
For Friday’s matchup, the Yankees will be sending out James Paxton in the start. In his 34.2 innings and 3-2 mark so far, Paxton has a 3.32 ERA with 51 Ks and 10 BBs.
The Twins are 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series and 5-0 in Gibson’s last five road starts. Minnesota is 7-1 in Gibson’s last eight starts and 7-2 in his last nine Friday starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-1 in their last six home games and 9-2 in the last 11 Friday games. new York is 9-3 in their last 12 overall and 4-1 in Paxton’s last five starts.
After a stretch of 12 earned across three starts to begin the season, Gibson has calmed down quite a bit, posting a nice 13.0 innings with three earned on eight hits in his last two starts (both wins).
As for Paxton, he’s 2-0 in his last three starts with a combined three earned (all in one game) in those appearances. That said, it’s tough knowing what you’re going to get from an injured Yankees offense from game to game, and I think Gibson can control most of the lineup if he’s on. I’m going Twins on a value pick here.
