The Line: New York Yankees -165 / New York Mets +145 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The New York Mets and the New York Yankees meet in the rubber match of this edition of the Subway Series on Sunday Night Baseball.
The New York Mets will look to bounce back after coming up just short on Saturday, dropping game two by a final score of 7-6. Michael Conforto belted a solo home run, while Amed Rosario went 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own. Brandon Nimmo and Jose Reyes each had an RBI as well despite going 0 for 3 at the plate, while Wilmer Flores added a base hit as well to round out the Mets’ offense as the Mets cranked out just five hits as a team in the loss. Steven Matz took the loss, falling to 4-8 this season after giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Jacob deGrom will start the finale and is 5-4 with a 1.68 ERA and 149 strikeouts this season. In his career, deGrom is 1-4 with a 3.67 ERA and 28 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees will look to win the set after evening the series at one win apiece following their game two victory on Saturday. Greg Bird and Austin Romine each had two RBIs, with Bird belting a double, while Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Miguel Andujar each had an RBI to round out the Yanks’ scoring. Judge went 3 for 4 with a solo homer and a double, while Andujar went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and Gregorius added a triple. Giancarlo Stanton and Brandon Drury each had a base knock as well to cap off the offense for the Yankees. Sonny Gray got the win to improve to 7-7 this season after giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Masahiro Tanaka will start the finale and is 7-2 with a 4.54 ERA and 83 strikeouts this season. In his career, Tanaka is 1-2 with a 3.08 ERA and 24 strikeouts against the Mets.
The Mets are 3-7 in deGrom’s last 10 starts and 5-13 in their last 18 games against the AL East while the over is 7-3-1 in their last 11 road games. The Yankees are 8-3 in Tanaka’s last 11 starts and 53-17 in their last 70 home games while the under is 12-3 in their last 15 games against the NL East. The Mets are 1-4 in deGrom’s last 5 starts against the Yankees.
This has been a much more exciting series than what I had expected coming out of the all-star break. With that said, the Mets are still not a very good baseball team, whoever is on the mound. The Yankees are the better team from top to bottom, and the Mets haven’t had much luck with deGrom on the bump, and since the line isn’t that bad, I’ll lay the juice with the Yankees here.
