The Line: New York Yankees -230 / Oakland Athletics +195 --- Over/Under: 9.5
Coming up Friday evening from Yankee Stadium, the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees will be squaring off on the MLB diamond.
The A’s just finished up a series versus the Astros. Oakland lost all three of those games 16-2, 4-2 and 4-1.
For the Friday game, the A’s will be bringing out Kendall Graveman. On the season, Graveman carries an 8.89 ERA with an 0-5 record over 28.1 innings.
The A’s leading hitter this year is Jed Lowrie, with 49 hits, 16 runs, eight homers and 32 RBI. Marcus Semien is second with 41 hits, 27 runs and 14 RBI to his credit.
New York is coming off a set versus their rival the Red Sox. The Yankees won the first two games in that series, then on Thursday lost the opportunity for the sweep with a 5-4 defeat.
The Yankees are rolling with RHP Sonny Gray on Friday. In his 33.0 innings and 2-2 record this year, Gray has a 6.00 ERA with 30 Ks and 21 BBs.
Heading into the Sox finale, Aaron Judge was the top hitter on the Yankees roster with 41 hits, 29 runs, nine homers and 27 RBI. On Thursday, Judge walked three times and bagged an RBI.
The A’s are 5-0 in the last five versus the AL East and 2-5 in their last seven Friday games. Oakland is also 1-4 in the last five following an off day and 0-4 in their last four versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 7-1 in their last eight in game one of a series and 6-1 in their last seven versus the AL West. New York is also 4-1 in Gray’s last five home starts and 4-1 in their last five home games versus a team with a losing record.
Gray had a bad couple of starts in April (11 earned over 6.1 innings), but since has done better, with four earned on eight hits in 12.0 innings over his last two starts. I know Gray can be a little unreliable here and there, and if he’s off in this one Oakland could jump on the opportunity. Still, with as hot as the Yankees offense has been lately I’m going with New York anyhow.
