New York, New York
New York Yankees -139 / San Diego Padres +129 O/U: 9.5
The San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees will meet up on the MLB diamond to open their series Monday.
The Padres are coming out of a road set against the Blue Jays. San Diego took the first game 6-3 and the second 19-4, but then on Sunday the Padres were shut down 10-1 in a loss.
For the Monday game, the Padres will send out Matt Strahm in the start. Over his 50.0 innings and 2-3 mark so far, Strahm has a 3.06 ERA with 41 Ks and eight walks.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up against the Royals. New York won both games of the Saturday doubleheader 7-3 and 6-5, then on Sunday the Yankees fell in a 10-inning heartbreaker after coming back from a 7-1 deficit. Final score 8-7 on a walk-off hit.
New York will be sending out Chad Green in the opener role here. Green has an 0-2 mark this year with a bloated 12.15 ERA and 13 Ks.
The Padres are 11-23 in their last 34 Monday games and 4-1 in Strahm’s last five starts. San Diego is 4-1 in Strahm’s last five starts on grass and 4-1 in his last five with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 40-16 in their last 56 in game one of a series. New York is 58-23 in their last 81 home games after a road trip of a week or more and 90-43 in their last 133 home games overall.
Strahm has been rock-solid consistent lately. He’s got five quality starts in his last six outings, and has given up exactly two earned in each of his last five. Following Strahm’s rocky start to the year April 1 (five earned in 2.2 innings), he hasn’t given up more than two earned in a span of eight starts.
New York is going to be scrambling for a while as they try to patch the injury holes in their lineup, and we’ll probably see a bunch of bullpen guys here. With Strahm on the other side, this isn’t a bad spot to take the Padres for a road win.
