New York, New York
New York Yankees -141 / San Diego Padres +131 O/U: 8.5
The San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees will meet up to finish off their MLB series on Wednesday.
In game one of this set, the Yankees banged out a 5-2 win. On Tuesday, San Diego got one with a 5-4 victory.
For the Wednesday finale, San Diego will be sending out Chris Paddack for the start. In his 51.1 innings and 4-2 record this year, Paddack has a 1.93 ERA with 56 Ks and 11 BBs.
The Padres racked up 10 hits in the win on Tuesday, and scored four of their runs in the first inning. The big swing came from Eric Hosmer, who hit his ninth homer—a three-run shot—in that first frame.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with James Paxton on Wednesday. Across 37.2 innings and a 3-2 mark thus far, Paxton has a 3.11 ERA with 52 Ks and 13 BBs.
New York put up some solid hits in Tuesday’s game, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Both Luke Voit and Aaron Hicks managed a pair of hits there.
The Padres are 9-2 in their last 11 Wednesday games and 4-1 in Paddack’s last five starts. San Diego is 4-1 in Paddack’s last five starts on grass and the under is 19-7 in their last 26 Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 7-2 in their last nine in game three of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games. New York is 4-0 in Paxton’s last four starts and 4-0 in his last four on grass.
Paddack has pitched well this season, and he’s got five quality starts in his last six attempts. He’s also been dealing with some neck stiffness this week however, so that will be worth keeping an eye on.
Oddly enough, Paxton is a little banged up as well; he’s coming off the IL due to knee inflammation. He had a pretty good run of four starts going before he got hurt, though.
In any case, this should be a fun matchup. I think Paddack is doing well enough to take a chance on the road dog Padres here.
