The Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees meet in game three of their four game set in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Seattle Mariners will look to bounce back after losing 8 of their last 9 games following a 5-4 heartbreaker in game two on Tuesday night. Edwin Encarnacion had a solo home run while Jay Bruce went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Ryon Healy and Domingo Santana each had an RBI to round out Seattle’s scoring as a team in the loss. Dee Gordon went 2 for 5 while Mitch Haniger and Daniel Vogelbach each had base hits as well in the defeat. Yusei Kikuchi will start game three and is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. This will be Kikuchi’s first career start against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees will look to build on their first two wins in the series after rallying for the W in game two on Tuesday. Gio Urshela led the Yankees with a two run home run and a double while DJ LeMahieu and Brett Gardner each had RBIs. Cameron Maybin and Gleyber Torres each had two hits while Clint Frazier had a base hit as well in the victory. Masahiro Tanaka gave up two runs on five hits while striking out four over 6.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Joe Harvey picked up the win in relief to improve to 1-0 this season. Jonathan Loaisiga will start game three and is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Loaisiga’s second career start against Seattle.
Seattle is 1-8 in their last 9 games overall and 1-7 in their last 8 road games while the over is 5-1-1 in Kikuchi’s last 7 starts overall. New York is 12-4 in their last 16 games overall and 84-41 in their last 125 home games while the over is 16-5 in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record. Seattle is 18-37 in the last 55 meetings between these two teams and 0-6 in the last 6 meetings between the two teams in New York.
The Yankees are still banged up, but the fact is that New York keeps on finding ways to win baseball games The Mariners are healthy, but for some reason this team has just cooled off big time and can’t find a win if their lives depended on it. This could go either way, but the Yankees are just in better form right now, so I’ll lay the juice with the Yankees here.
