The Line: New York Yankees -159 / Tampa Bay Rays +149 --- Over/Under: 9
On Friday evening from Yankee Stadium, the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees will be continuing their weekend MLB series.
In the Thursday opener, the Yankees eked out a 4-3 victory, scoring all four runs in the fifth inning.
For Friday’s game, the Rays will be bringing out RHP Nathan Eovaldi. In his 16.0 innings and 1-1 record this year, Eovaldi has a 3.94 ERA with 11 Ks and two walks.
Tops in hitting for the Rays entering this series was Matt Duffy with 65 hits, 16 runs and 18 RBI. On Thursday, Duffy managed two hits with a solo homer.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with Jonathan Loaisiga on Friday. This will be Loaisiga’s Major-League debut following a 4.32 ERA in six starts in AA ball.
Aaron Judge and Miguel Andujar were tied for the Yankees’ hitting lead heading into this set with 63 apiece. On Thursday, Judge had two hits with a run; Andujar went 1-for-4.
The Rays are 1-4 in their last five Friday games and the under is 6-1 in their last seven in game two of a series. The under is 7-3-1 in Tampa’s last 11 Friday games and they’re 8-17 in their last 25 games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 11-4 in their last 15 in game two of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Friday games. The under is 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 4-0 in their last four during game two of a series.
We’re just starting to get an extended look at Eovaldi following his Tommy John surgery, and he’s given up seven earned in his last two starts across 10.0 innings. It will also be interesting to see what Loaisiga can do with this opportunity. Long story short, neither guy should last too long and it ought to be a heavier bullpen day on both sides. I’m going Yankees just because of the offensive potential, but the over looks okay too.
