New York, New York
New York Yankees -150 / Tampa Bay Rays +140 O/U: 9
The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Monday.
The Rays are fresh off a four-game set against the Orioles. Tampa lost the opening game of the doubleheader Saturday 2-1, but otherwise took wins 16-4, 12-4 and 4-1 for a series victory.
In the Monday game, the Rays will be sending out Blake Snell to kick things off. Across 90.0 innings and a 5-7 record this year, Snell has a 4.70 ERA with 122 Ks and 31 BBs.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up against the Blue Jays. New York fell 2-1 on Saturday, but won 4-0 on Friday and 4-2 in the Sunday rubber match.
James Paxton will be taking the mound for the Yankees in the Monday game. Paxton has pitched through 76.1 innings and a 5-4 record so far and owns a 4.01 ERA with 95 Ks and 30 walks.
The Rays are 23-5 in their last 28 Monday games and 2-6 in their last eight in game one of a series. Tampa is 1-4 in Snell’s last five road starts and 19-9 in his last 28 starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 38-14 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 38-18 in their last 56 Monday games. New York is 6-1 in Paxton’s last seven home starts and 4-1 in his last five during game one of a series.
This series is a fairly important one right now, as these teams are fighting for the AL East lead and won’t see each other again for a while.
Snell had a rough stretch in June but since has put up three earned in 11.0 innings over two starts. As for Paxton, he has consecutive quality starts to his credit with 12.0 innings and three earned but hasn’t won since June 21.
Should be a fun game here. I’ll take New York at home but going Rays on a value pick makes some sense as well.
