The Line: New York Yankees TBA / Tampa Bay Rays TBA --- Over/Under:
Over at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Tuesday opener, the Yankees slammed out a 4-1 win, out-hitting the Rays 7-3.
For Wednesday’s game, the Rays will be bringing out Jake Faria. He’s 1-2 with a 7.24 ERA in six road outings this year.
The Rays’ leading bat this year is Matt Duffy, who came into this set on 115 hits, 41 runs and 32 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Duffy went 0-for-4.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with Luis Cessa, who will be filling in for the injured CC Sabathia. In his 24.0 innings and 1-2 mark this year, Cessa carries a 4.50 ERA with 17 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Yankees this season is Giancarlo Stanton, who entered this set on 128 hits, 77 runs, 30 homers and 76 RBI. On Tuesday, Stanton had a hit and a run.
The Rays are 2-6 in their last eight in game two of a series and the under is 10-3 in their last 13 Wednesday games. The under is also 20-8-1 in the Rays’ last 29 in game two of a series and Tampa is 9-22 in their last 31 road games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 36-15 in their last 51 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series. The over is 9-3 in New York’s last 12 in game two of a series and they’re 6-2 in their last nine overall.
The Yankees have plenty of injury concerns to complain about right now, but no one’s going to give them any sympathy. This is probably a good spot to test out Cessa some more however, as the Rays have some decent hitters on their roster. Still, with the Yankees offense (and just about everything else) sputtering into inconsistency lately, I’m going to value-pick the Rays.
