The Line: New York Yankees -230 / Texas Rangers +212 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Friday from Yankee Stadium, the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees will be continuing their weekend MLB series.
In the Thursday opener, the Yankees escaped a little ninth-inning drama for a 7-3 victory.
For Friday’s game, the Rangers will be wheeling out LHP Mike Minor for the start. In his 117.1 innings and 8-6 record this year, Minor has a 4.53 ERA with 98 Ks.
Shin-Soo Choo leads the Rangers in hitting this year with 113 hits, 65 runs, 20 homers and 54 RBI heading into this set. On Thursday, Choo had a hit and two RBI.
As for the Yankees, they’re going with RHP Masahiro Tanaka for the start Friday. Across 103.0 innings and a 9-2 record this year, Tanaka has a 3.76 ERA with 109 Ks.
The Yankees’ leading hitter this season is Giancarlo Stanton, with 123 hits, 71 runs, 27 homers and 73 RBI entering this series. In the opener, Stanton ripped a solo homer.
The Rangers are 5-2 in their last seven Friday games and 3-7 in their last 10 in game two of a series. Texas is 2-5 in Minor’s last seven road starts and 1-6 in his last seven starts versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 0-4 in their last four Friday games and 36-16 in their last 52 home games versus a left-handed starter. New York is also 35-17 in their last 52 games versus a left-handed starter and the under is 9-2 in their last 11 Friday games.
Minor has been good over his past 10 starts, with a 4-2 record and a 3.26 ERA during that span. As for Tanaka, he’s been the Yankees’ most consistent pitcher since returning from injury (hamstrings) on July 10. Since then, Tanaka has a 1.78 ERA in 30.1 innings over five starts. I’m going to stick with Tanaka keeping it going here and take the Yanks.
