The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees will match up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Monday.
The Jays are coming off a set against the Red Sox this weekend. Toronto split the first two games of that series 7-5 Friday (loss) and 8-7 Saturday (win), then on Sunday the Jays won the series with a 6-1 victory.
For the Monday game, the Blue Jays will be sending out Aaron Sanchez to start. Across his 3-9 record this year, Sanchez has a 5.49 ERA with 65 Ks.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up against the Astros. New York won 10-6 Thursday, 4-1 Friday and 7-5 Saturday in that set. In the Sunday finale, the Yankees couldn’t complete the sweep and went down 9-4.
On Monday, New York will be sending out CC Sabathia for the start. Over his 63.0 innings and 4-4 record so far, Sabathia has a 4.14 ERA with 57 Ks and 24 BBs.
Toronto is 9-27 in their last 36 road games versus a left-handed starter and 1-10 in their last 11 in game one of a series. The Jays are 0-4 in their last four Monday games and the over is 8-2 in their last 10 in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-2 in Sabathia’s last seven Monday starts and 29-10 in his last 39 home starts. New York is 37-18 in their last 55 Monday games and 5-1 in Sabathia’s last six starts versus a team with a losing record.
Sabathia had a couple of sketchy starts going, with nine earned on 17 hits in 9.2 innings—along with three straight losses—but came out for a great milestone win his last time up with 6.0 innings, three hits and one earned versus Tampa.
The Yankees were flailing a bit last week at one point, but with a successful series against Houston under their belts they’re cruising. Realistically the line here is too thick to do much of anything with, but I’m going New York.
