The Line: New York Yankees -183 / Toronto Blue Jays +173 --- Over/Under: 9
Out at Yankee Stadium on Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees will be kicking off their MLB set.
The Jays are coming off a series versus the Royals. Toronto won two of the first three games in that set, then on Thursday, Toronto fell 6-2.
For Friday’s game, the Jays will be sending out RHP Marcus Stroman. In his 96.2 innings and 4-8 record this year, Stroman has a 5.03 ERA with 74 Ks and 34 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Jays this year is Justin Smoak, who entered Thursday on 103 hits, 50 runs, 18 homers and 59 RBI. In the Royals finale, Smoak had a hit and a run.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up against the Rays. New York split the first pair of games in that set, then on Thursday the Yankees lost 3-1.
On Friday, the Yankees are going with Lance Lynn in the start. In 119.0 innings and an 8-8 record this year, Lynn has a 4.46 ERA with 122 Ks and 66 BBs.
Giancarlo Stanton tops out the Yankees lineup with 132 hits, 78 runs, 30 homers and 70 RBI. Miguel Andujar isn’t too far behind him with 123 hits, 60 runs, 19 homers and 59 RBI.
The Jays are 6-1 in their last seven Friday games and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series. Toronto is also 5-12 in Stroman’s last 17 Friday starts and 1-4 in his last five starts with four days rest.
The Yankees are 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series and 1-7 in their last eight versus the AL East. New York is also 0-5 in their last five Friday games and 61-23 in their last 84 home games.
Stroman has had a couple of bumps in the road here and there, but on the whole he’s been very good lately, with just one of his last five starts resulting in more than two earned. As for Lynn, he’s been pretty smooth as well, with just three earned over his last four appearances. This should be a fun pitching matchup, and I think the Yanks can eke one out.
