The Baltimore Orioles and the Oakland A’s meet in game one of a three game set in MLB action from the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Monday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to snap a five game losing skid after being swept by Boston, dropping the series finale by a final score of 8-6 on Sunday. Hanser Alberto and Stevie Wilkerson each had two RBIs with Wilkerson hitting a home run and a triple while Trey Mancini added a solo home run as well in the loss. Keon Broxton added a double and Pedro Severino went 2 for 5 while Anthony Santander and Jonathan Villar each chipped in base hits as well in the loss for the O’s. John Means gave up two runs on seven hits over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Mychal Givens took the loss, falling to 0-4 with his 5th save of the season. Andrew Cashner will start game one and is 6-2 with a 4.73 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cashner is 2-1 with a 6.53 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Oakland.
The Oakland A’s will look to bounce back after a series loss to Seattle, dropping the finale on Sunday by a final score of 6-3. Khris Davis and Ramon Laureano each had a solo home run while Robbie Grossman had a double and an RBI as well to round out Oakland’s scoring in the loss. Matt Chapman and Jurickson Profar each had a double while Marcus Semien, Mark Canha and Beau Taylor each had base hits as well in the losing effort. Tanner Anderson allowed two runs on three hits over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Lou Trivino took the loss, falling to 2-5 on the year after picking up his 4th blown save of the year. Mike Fiers will start the opener and is 6-3 with a 4.63 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fiers is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 2-6 in Cashner’s last 8 starts against the AL West and 33-97 in their last 130 road games while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Oakland is 10-3 in Fiers’ last 13 home starts and 2-10 in their last 12 games against the AL East while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 series opening games. Baltimore is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 20-43 in the last 63 meetings between these two teams in Oakland.
The plus money would be tempting with Baltimore, but the issue is that the Orioles aren’t playing well enough to warrant taking a stab on the plus money. Oakland hasn’t been playing great over the last week, but the A’s are more likely to win the game and Fiers has an ERA just over two in his career against the O’s while Cashner has struggled mightily against Oakland in his career. I’ll side with Oakland for the win and to cut down the heavy juice, I’ll side with the A’s on the RL as I just think Oakland gets to Cashner again.
