Boston Red Sox at Oakland Athletics
|Date & Time||Tuesday April 2, 2019, 10:07 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -195 / Oakland Athletics +155 -- Over/Under: 7.5
The Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics meet Tuesday in MLB action at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Boston Red Sox need a win here to rebound from a slow 1-4 start to the season. The Red Sox have allowed 23 runs in their last three games and six or more runs in all five games this season. The Boston Red Sox have lost nine of their last 11 regular season games when allowing more than two runs. J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox with seven hits and seven RBI while Rafael Devers and Mookie Betts have combined for 11 hits and one RBI. Chris Sale gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA and four strikeouts this season. Sale is 6-3 with a 2.78 ERA and 86 strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics look to stay hot after winning four of their last five games. The Athletics have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their first seven games. The Oakland Athletics have won 10 of their last 15 games when scoring more than two runs. Marcus Semien leads the Athletics with nine hits and three RBI while Matt Chapman and Khris Davis have combined for 14 hits and 12 RBI. Mike Fiers gets the ball, and he is 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA and five strikeouts this season. Fiers is 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA and 17 strikeouts in his career against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 13-6 in their last 19 vs. American League West, 5-1 in Sale's last 6 road starts and 12-3 in Sale's last 15 starts. The Athletics are 21-7 in their last 28 during game 2 of a series, 7-1 in Fiers' last 8 home starts and 9-2 in Fiers' last 11 starts. The Red Sox are 16-36 in the last 52 meetings in Oakland and 1-4 in the last 5 meetings. The under is 5-0 in Athletics last 5 overall. The over is 6-1 in Sale's last 7 road starts.
The Oakland Athletics are picking up exactly where they left off at home last season, a team that plays together, hits the ball well and their pitchers show up in this big ball park. Fiers has had a ton of success with Oakland since coming over in the middle of last year from the Detroit Tigers. We all know what Sale is capable of, but he's also a pitcher who got rocked in his first start this season, and he's a fastball pitcher who is throwing to a talented Oakland lineup that loves the heat and makes guys pay for mistakes. I like the value of the plus money and the Oakland Athletics, especially with the Red Sox sleepwalking to start the season.
