Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics
|Date & Time||Saturday March 30, 2019, 9:07 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Los Angeles Angels +102 / Oakland Athletics -112 -- Over/Under: 8.5
The Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics meet Saturday in MLB action at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Los Angeles Angels finally put some offense together after being shutout opening day, and they scored all six of their runs in the final two innings. Mike Trout capped off the Angels first win of the season with a clutch double that produced two runs. It’s the type of late surge that could have a carryover effect on the Angels, so I look for a faster start in game three of this series. The Los Angeles Angels hope to improve to 2-1 through the first three games for the third straight season. Kole Calhoun leads the Angels with three hits and one RBI while Mike Trout and Brian Goodwin have combined for five hits and two RBI. Felix Pena gets the ball, and he was 3-5 with a 4.18 ERA and 85 strikeouts last season. Pena is 0-1 with a 8.44 ERA and seven strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics are off to a slow 1-3 start and a lot of it has to do with a pitching staff that falls apart. The A’s have allowed five or more runs in three of their first four games, and you’re simply not going to win much when the offense is constantly having to put up crooked numbers. The Oakland Athletics have to figure things out rather quickly given the toughness of their division. Marcus Semien leads the Athletics with six hits and three RBI while Matt Chapman and Khris Davis have combined for 10 hits and 10 RBI. Brett Anderson gets the ball, and he was 4-5 with a 4.48 ERA and 47 strikeouts last season. Anderson is 2-3 with a 3.48 ERA and 45 strikeouts in his career against the Angels.
The Angels are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. American League West, 1-5 in their last 6 Saturday games and 2-5 in Pena's last 7 road starts. The Athletics are 13-3 in their last 16 Saturday games, 37-18 in their last 55 home games and 1-4 in Anderson's last 5 starts. The Athletics are 3-7 in Anderson's last 10 starts vs. Angels and the Angels are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Oakland. The under is 4-1-1 in Angels last 6 overall. The over is 12-5-1 in Athletics last 18 overall.
The Oakland Athletics have had a lot of success against Pena in 39 career at bats against him, hitting .282 with three homers. Despite just 31.1 innings pitched at the Oakland Coliseum last year, Anderson had an ERA of 2.01 with an allowed batting average of .191. I'm not throwing in the towel on the Oakland Athletics just yet, as the offense is too powerful and they had a ton of success in this ballpark last season. I like the A's at home and the cheap price.
