The Line: Oakland Athletics -105 / Los Angeles Angels -105 --- Over/Under: 8.5
On Sunday out at O.co Coliseum, the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A’s will be finishing up their MLB series.
The Angels took game one of this set 8-4, then on Saturday the A’s evened it up 6-4.
For the Sunday game, the Angels will be bringing out lefty Andrew Heaney. In his 63.2 innings and 3-5 record this year, Heaney has a 3.68 ERA with 60 Ks and 20 walks.
Mike Trout is the Angels’ leading hitter this year, entering the weekend with 80 hits, 58 runs, 23 homers and 46 RBI. On Saturday, Trout had a hit and a run.
Over on the A’s side, they’re going with Daniel Mengden on Sunday. Over his 83.0 innings and 6-6 mark this season, Mengden has a 3.90 ERA with 52 Ks and 15 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the A’s this season is Jed Lowrie, with 76 hits, 26 runs and 42 RBI entering the weekend. On Saturday, Lowrie had a hit and an RBI.
The Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 in game three of a series and 1-4 in Heaney’s last five starts. LA is also 0-4 in Heaney’s last four road starts and 0-4 in his last four during game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 20-7 in their last 27 Sunday games and 5-2 in Mengden’s last seven home starts. Oakland is also 2-14 in Mengden’s last 16 starts versus the AL West and 5-2 in his last seven home starts versus a team with a winning record.
Sandwiched around his complete game one-hit shutout on June 5, Heaney has given up 10 earned runs in 8.0 innings over two starts. As for Mengden, he’s coughed up 12 earned over his last two starts in 8.2 innings. I don’t totally trust him, but I think Heaney and the Angels are the way to go here.
