|Date & Time||Friday July 20, 2018, 9:35 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Oakland Athletics -120 / San Francisco Giants +110 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming our way Friday night from O.co Coliseum, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics will be meeting up in MLB action.
San Francisco sits at 50-48 on the season so far, and they’re 5-5 in their last 10 games. As for the A’s, they’re 55-42 and have a 7-3 mark in their last 10 outings.
For the Friday game, the Giants will be bringing out Dereck Rodriguez for the start. Across his 46.2 innings and 4-1 record this year, Rodriguez has a 2.89 ERA with 37 Ks and 13 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Giants this season is Brandon Crawford, with 96 hits, 42 runs, 10 homers and 39 RBI. Close behind him is Andrew McCutchen, with 92 hits, 49 runs and 40 RBI to his name.
Over on the A’s side, they are rolling out Edwin Jackson for the Friday start. Across 24.1 innings and a 1-1 record this year, Jackson has a 2.59 ERA with 17 Ks.
Leading the way for the A’s in hitting this year is Jed Lowrie, with 103 hits, 43 runs, 16 homers and 62 RBI. In second place is Marcus Semien, with 99 hits, 51 runs and 33 RBI.
The Giants are 4-0 in their last five games following an off day and 5-2 in their last seven Friday games. San Francisco is also 10-21 in their last 31 road games and 1-4 in their last five versus the AL West.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 8-1 in their last nine versus the NL West. and 6-1 in their last seven home games. Oakland is 21-6 in their last 27 overall and 10-4 in their last 14 following a win.
Rodriguez had a couple of shaky outings back in June, but in his last four games he’s given up just three earned runs. Interestingly enough, Rodriguez is on pace to be one of the better rookie pitchers of the San Francisco era, and if he can reach 10 wins he’ll be top-10 in that category. It’s going to be an intriguing half-season for him moving forward, and I think he’ll start things out well here. I’ll take the Giants.
