The Line: Oakland Athletics -135 / San Francisco Giants +125 --- Over/Under: 8
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics meet Sunday in MLB action at Oakland Coliseum.
The San Francisco Giants look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last 12 games. The Giants have scored 10 runs in their last three games and three or more runs in six of their last nine games. The San Francisco Giants have won seven of their last nine games when scoring at least three runs. Brandon Crawford leads the Giants with 97 hits and 40 RBI while Andrew McCutchen and Buster Posey have combined for 181 hits and 73 RBI. Johnny Cueto gets the ball, and he is 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. This will be Cueto’s second career game against the Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics look for another victory after winning eight of their last 11 games. The Athletics have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 11 of their last 14 games. The Oakland Athletics have won 10 of their last 12 games when scoring more than one run. Jed Lowrie leads the Athletics with 103 hits and 62 RBI while Marcus Semien and Stephen Piscotty have combined for 184 hits and 80 RBI. Sean Manaea gets the ball, and he is 9-6 with a 3.42 ERA and 83 strikeouts this season. Manaea is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA and six strikeouts in his career against the Giants.
The Giants are 6-1 in their last 7 Sunday games, 6-1 in Cuetos last 7 road starts and 8-2 in Cuetos last 10 starts. The Athletics are 8-2 in their last 10 interleague games, 21-7 in their last 28 Sunday games and 6-1 in Manaeas last 7 starts. The Giants are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Oakland and the over is 10-3-2 in the last 15 meetings.
While he's pitched just 42 innings this season, Cueto has been one of the better pitchers in baseball this season. Also, in 20 innings on the road this season, Cueto has given up just five hits and zero runs. Granted, Cueto hasn't pitched on the road since April 22, but those are impressive numbers regardless. Manaea has allowed no more than three runs in each of his last eight starts and is giving up a .189 batting average at home. The Oakland Athletics are the hottest team in baseball over the last month and an extra innings win last night only improves that confidence. However, Cueto and the plus money is tough to pass up in terms of value.
