|Date & Time||Friday August 31, 2018, 10:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Oakland Athletics -152 / Seattle Mariners +142 --- Over/Under: 8
The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics will be meeting up on Friday to continue their MLB set from O.co Coliseum.
In the Thursday opener, the Mariners broke the game open with seven runs in the first four innings en route to a 7-1 victory.
For the Friday game, the Mariners will be sending out RHP Mike Leake. In his 160.2 innings and 8-8 mark this year, Leake has a 4.03 ERA with 102 Ks and 31 BBs.
Tops on offense for the Mariners is Jean Segura, who came into this set on 159 hits, 81 runs and 58 RBI. In the opener, Segura was scratched but Denard Span ripped a triple and plated a run.
Over on the A’s side, they're going with Mike Fiers on Friday. Across 143.0 innings and a 10-6 mark this year, Fiers has a 3.15 ERA with 115 Ks and 29 BBs.
Marcus Semien leads the A’s in hitting this year, coming into this series on 138 hits, 76 runs, 11 homers and 48 RBI. On Thursday, Semien had a hit and a run.
The Mariners are 3-7 in their last 10 in game two of a series and 5-1 in Leake’s last six Friday starts. Seattle is 9-2 in Leake’s last 11 starts with four days’ rest and 8-3 in his last 11 road starts.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 19-7 in their last 26 in game two of a series and 4-0 in Fiers’ last four starts. Oakland is 4-0 in Fiers’ last four starts on grass and the under is 6-0-1 in their last seven Friday games.
After a nice run of six straight quality starts, Leake stumbled a bit in his last outing in Arizona, giving up five earned on seven hits in 6.0 innings for a loss. As for Fiers, he’s been pretty darn awesome over his last five starts, surrendering more than one earned just once (two against the Mariners on August 14 in a win). I’m going with the A’s to take it here, but it should be a great matchup. The under makes sense as well.
