The Line: Oakland Athletics -109 / Tampa Bay Rays -109 --- Over/Under: 8
In Monday MLB action from O.co Coliseum, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics will be kicking off their series.
The Rays are coming off a set versus the Orioles. After splitting the first two games, in the Sunday finale the Rays managed an 8-3 victory.
The Rays will be rolling out RHP Chris Archer on Monday. In his 65.1 innings and 3-3 record this year, Archer has a 4.68 ERA with 63 Ks and 22 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Rays this year is CJ Cron, who entered the week with 53 hits, 29 runs, 11 homers and 30 RBI. On Sunday, Cron went 0-for-3.
Over on the A’s side, they’re fresh off a series against the Diamondbacks. Oakland split the first pair of games Friday and Saturday, then on Sunday the A’s squeaked by 2-1.
In Monday’s game, the A’s will be going with Trevor Cahill in the start.
Jed Lowrie led the Athletics coming into the week with 61 hits, 20 runs, nine homers and 38 RBI. On Sunday, Lowrie went 0-for-4.
The Rays are 4-0 in their last four Monday games and 4-1 in Archer’s last five starts in game one of a series. Tampa is also 3-7 in Archer’s last 10 starts on grass and 1-4 in his last five starts overall.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 4-0 in their last four versus the AL East. Oakland is also 5-0 in Cahill’s last five starts versus a team with a losing record and 1-9 in his last 10 starts in game one of a series.
Archer had a bad outing in Baltimore, but since then has put up two straight quality starts with one earned across 12.2 combined innings. As for Cahill, he’s given up 11 earned over his last five outings, but does have three quality starts in his last four. This should be a decent pitching matchup but I like Archer a little more right now. I’m going Rays here.
