The Line: Oakland Athletics -172 / Toronto Blue Jays +162 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Out at O.co Coliseum on Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In the Monday opener, the A’s plated six runs in the eighth on the way to a 10-1 win.
For Tuesday’s matchup, the Jays will be sending out RHP Sam Gaviglio. In his 69.2 innings and 2-3 mark this year, Gaviglio has a 4.65 ERA with 65 Ks and 22 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Blue Jays this year is Yangervis Solarte, who came into this set on 93 hits, 45 runs, 17 homers and 53 RBI. On Monday, Solarte put up one hit.
As for the A’s, they’re going with Trevor Cahill on Tuesday. Across 63.0 innings and a 2-2 record this year, Cahill has a 3.43 ERA with 59 Ks and 20 BBs.
Jed Lowrie had a slim lead on the rest of the A’s offense coming into this set with 109 hits, 48 runs, 17 homers and 66 RBI. On Monday, Lowrie had a hit and two RBI.
The Jays are 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series and 2-6 in their last eight Tuesday games. Toronto is 5-0 in Gaviglio’s last five starts with five days’ rest and 1-4 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series. Oakland is 5-12 in Cahill’s last 17 starts with four days’ rest and 2-5 in his last seven Tuesday starts.
In his last two games, Gaviglio has put up seven earned in 12.2 innings on 13 hits overall, but it’s been quite a while since he’s registered a win. As for Cahill, he’s coughed up 13 earned over his last four starts and hasn’t made it past the sixth inning in any of those. I’m not thrilled with either pitcher here obviously, but I’ll give the at-home A’s a slight advantage. The play for me is the over, though.
