The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Tuesday at PETCO Park for game two of their MLB NL West series.
The San Diego Padres are 4-4 this season after losing on Monday to the Diamondbacks. Yonder Alonso hit a home run and Wil Myers and Yangervis Solarte each had two hits as the Padres scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Odrisamer Despaigne whose only appearance this season came in relief pitching 4.2 hitless innings against the Giants.
The Arizona Diamondbacks got out ahead early on Monday and never looked back beating the Padres. Ender Inciarte had three hits and David Peralta, Mark Trumbo, and Jacob Lamb each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa allowed six hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to get the win. For Tuesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Jeremy Hellickson who allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out two over 4.1 innings to take the loss against the Giants in his first start of the year.
San Diego is 6-2 in their last eight games following a loss, 18-6 in game two of a series, 21-9 as a favorite, and 4-0 in Despaignes’ last four starts. Arizona is 18-35 in their last 53 games, 16-36 in their last 52 road games, 7-20 as a road underdog, and 1-8 in Tuesday games. Arizona is 6-1 in the last seven meetings of these two.
