The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants face off on Saturday in game three of their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres took eight innings to score their first run on Friday but it was enough to get the win in game two in their series with the Giants to level it at a game each. Will Myers had two hits and Justin Upton and Yonder Alonso each had hits as the Padres scored one run on five hits. Statting pitcher Brandon Morrow allowed four hits and struck out seven over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Joaquin Benoit got his second win of the year and Craig Kimbrel earned his first save. For Saturday’s game the Padres start James Shields who allowed six hits and two runs striking out eight over 6.0 innings to not get a decision in his first start at the Dodgers.
The San Francisco Giants battled the full game on Friday at San Diego but it wasn’t enough as they took the loss. Norichika Aoki had two hits, Buster Posey had two hits, and Joe Panik had a hit as the Giants failed to score a run on their five hits. Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum allowed four hits and struck out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Jeremy Affeldt took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Giants start World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner who allowed six hits and a run while striking out three over 7.0 innings to get the win.
San Diego is 5-2 as a home underdog, 25-8 in their last 33 home games, 4-10 against a left-handed starter, and 1-5 in their last six games. San Francisco is 5-2 against the NL West, 15-7 as a road favorite, 4-0 in Saturday games, and 19-7 in Bumgarner’s last 26 road starts. San Francisco is 4-2 in their last six games against San Diego.
This game is very close to a pick’em and rightfully so but I see the Giants having the edge with Bumgarner as Shields is a gamer but he isn’t as stifling as Bumgarner.
