The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants face off on Sunday at Petco Park for game four of heir National League West MLB series.
The San Diego Padres Dropped game one of this series to the Giants but have won the last two including a beat down on Saturday. Matt Kemp had four hits and Will Middlebrooks and Yangervis Solarte each had three hit as the Padres scored 10 runs on 20 hits. Starting pitcher James Shields was in control allowing three hits and a run while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who had a no decision in his first start allowing six hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings against the Dodgers.
The San Francisco Giants tend to play in defensive games but that wasn’t the caser on Saturday as they were pounded in San Diego. Joaquin Arias hit a home run and Angel Pagan and Joe Panik each had hits as the Giants scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner was shelled allowing 10 hits and five runs while striking out four lasting just 3.0 innings and taking the loss. For Sunday’s game the Giants look to bounce back with Jake Peavy who makes his first start of the year after going 6-4 with a 2.17 ERA and striking out 58 over 78.2 innings after being dealt to the Giants.
San Diego is 19-7 as a home favorite, 22-8 when the total is set at 6.5 or lower, and 5-0 in Ross’ last five starts as a home favorite. San Francisco is 17-8 in their last 25 games, 13-3 in game four of a series, and 7-3 in Peavy’s last 10 starts. San Francisco is 1-5 in their last six games in San Diego.
Ross is just the better option here as these teams are really pretty even though the Padres roster just looks to have more potential if they can come together as a team.
