The San Diego Padres and the Washington nationals face off on Saturday at Petco Park for game three of their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres opened their series with the Nationals with a blowout win on Thursday but they were on the wring side of the blowout on Friday taking the loss. Yangervis Solarte had two hits and Justin Upton and Derek Norris each had hits as the Padres didn’t score on seven hits. Starting pitcher Ordisamer Despaigne allowed 10 hits and seven runs while striking out one lasting just 3.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 43 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 45 over 44 innings for a 1-6 record and a 3.07 ERA.
The Washington Nationals looked lost on Thursday getting pounded by the Padres but they turned the tables Friday getting the win. Bryce Harper had three hits including a home run and Denard Span and Yunel Escobar each had two hits as the Nationals scored 10 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed six hits and struck out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 3-2 and A.J. Cole earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Nationals start Max Scherzer who has allowed 40 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 55 over 49.2 innings for a 3-3 record and a 1.99 ERA.
San Diego is 7-3 against the NL East, 3-8 as an underdog, and 0-4 in Cashner’s last four starts. Washington is 8-1 as a road favorite, 8-2 in their last 10 games, and 4-1 in Scherzer’s last five starts as a favorite.
If you like a lot of scoring this isn’t a game you will want to follow and my free pick is the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
