MLB | Atlanta Braves (8-8) at Philadelphia Phillies (6-11)

The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies collide in the rubber match of their weekend set.

A quick start to the season for the Atlanta Braves has been in a slow downward spiral. The Braves were in the midst of a four game slide before the hitting and pitching came together in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Philadelphia. Shelby Miller was sharp on the mound with both runs allowed on three hits and a pair of walks over six frames to up his record to 3-0. With three relievers putting up zeros. The Braves totaled nine hits and walked four times with Andrelton Simmons going deep with five players scoring and five driving in runs. The Braves turn to Trevor Cahill on the mound in the final game of the series with Philadelphia. Cahill has struggled in his two starts with eight runs plated on ten hits and four BB over 6.1 frames.

The Philadelphia Phillies are in need of help in every area and whether they get the necessary pieces is not going to happen with little value for trade bait. With that said whenever either the pitching or hitting has a big night the game has to go in to the win column and that didn’t happen Saturday when David Buchanan threw his best game of the season. Buchanan allowed three runs on two hits and three BB through 6.2 innings to fall to 0-4 while Jake Diekman let things get out of reach with two runs scored in one inning. The struggling Phillies offense produced six hits and two bases on balls with a two run homer from Ryan Howard accounting for the scoring. Jerome Williams takes the ball in the series finale’ against visiting Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. Williams is looking to build on his 7-3 win against Miami where he gave up all three runs (two earned) on eight hits in six innings.

The over is 6-2 in Atlanta’s last 8 games as an underdog and is  7-3 in their last 10 on grass while going  9-4 in the Braves last 13 overall. The Phillies are 3-9 in their last 12 overall and  are 3-9 in their last 12 games on grass while the over is 6-2-2 in PHI last 10 overall. This is an awful match up and I don’t know what to say except that there are other games to bet…

Philadelphia -111

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
