The Line: Philadelphia Phillies -125 / Atlanta Braves +115 --- Over/Under: 9
Over at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Braves are coming off a set versus the Marlins. After splitting the first two games, in the rubber match Sunday the Braves took a 10-9 win.
For Monday’s game, the Braves are going with RHP Mike Foltynewicz. In his 47.0 innings and 3-2 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 2.87 ERA with 57 Ks and 24 BBs.
Nick Markakis led the Braves coming into the week with 60 hits, 30 runs, seven homers and 30 RBI. On Sunday, Markakis had two hits, two RBI and two runs.
As for the Phillies, they just finished up against the Cardinals. Philadelphia took two of the first three games, and on Sunday missed the sweep with a 5-1 loss.
Philadelphia will be sending out Nick Pivetta on Monday. Over 46.0 innings and a 3-2 record this year, Pivetta has a 3.72 ERA with 53 Ks and 11 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Phillies coming into the week was Odubel Herrera with 55 hits, 24 runs, seven homers and 30 RBI. In the Sunday game, Herrera had an 0-for-4 day.
The Braves are 3-11 in their last 14 Monday games and 2-7 in Foltynewicz’s last nine road starts. Atlanta is also 3-13 in Foltynewicz’s last 16 starts and 1-7 in his last eight starts with five days rest.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 8-1 in Pivetta’s last nine home starts and 13-3 in his last 16 starts. Philadelphia is also 4-1 in Pivetta’s last five starts in game one of a series and 6-2 in his last eight starts versus the NL East.
It’s been a pretty smooth couple of games for Foltynewicz, who has zero earned on six hits in 10.0 innings over his last two games. As for Pivetta, he’s done well also with one earned in his last 13.0 innings and two starts. This should be a fun game to watch. I want to give the Braves an advantage, but they haven’t been playing well behind Foltynewicz lately. I’m going with the Phillies.
