The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies meet Tuesday in MLB action at Citizens Bank Park.
The Atlanta Braves look for another victory after winning six of their last nine games. The Braves have scored 18 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 12 games. The Atlanta Braves have won six straight games when scoring more than two runs. Nick Markakis leads the Braves with 63 hits and 32 RBI while Ozzie Albies and Freddie Freeman have combined for 112 hits and 68 RBI. Brandon McCarthy gets the ball, and he is 4-2 with a 5.05 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season. McCarthy is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA and 37 strikeouts in his career against the Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies look for another victory after winning eight of their last 11 games. The Phillies have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Philadelphia Phillies have won eight of their last nine games when scoring more than one run. Odubel Herrera leads the Phillies with 57 hits and 30 RBI while Cesar Hernandez and Rhys Hoskins have combined for 84 hits and 42 RBI. Vince Velasquez gets the ball, and he is 4-4 with a 4.37 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. Velasquez is 0-4 with a 4.89 ERA and 39 strikeouts in his career against the Braves.
The Braves are 7-17 in their last 24 during game 2 of a series, 13-3 in their last 16 road games and 4-1 in McCarthys last 5 starts vs. National League East. The Phillies are 9-3 in their last 12 during game 2 of a series, 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 5-12 in Velasquezs last 17 home starts. The Braves are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia, 10-4 in the last 14 meetings and the Phillies are 1-5 in Velasquezs last 6 starts vs. Braves.
McCarthy has been downright awful this season, allowing five or more runs in three of his last five starts and giving up a .321 batting average this season. Velasquez has been decent as of late, allowing three or less runs in each of his last three starts and posting a 2.08 ERA in his last 17.1 innings of work. The Braves have been on fire recently and getting them at plus money does hold value, but I'm not putting any money on McCarthy in his current form.
