The Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies will kick off their weekend MLB set on Saturday.
Boston is getting out of a series versus the Blue Jays this week. The Sox fell in the first two games of that set 4-3 and 8-0 but managed a win 7-4 on Thursday.
For the Saturday game, the Red Sox will send out Eduardo Rodriguez in the start. Over his 178.2 innings and 17-6 mark this year, Rodriguez has a 3.73 ERA with 177 Ks and 67 BBs.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re fresh out of a set against the Braves. Philly split that four-game series, losing Monday and Wednesday but getting wins 6-5 Tuesday and 9-5 Thursday.
In the Saturday matchup, the Phillies are going with Aaron Nola to start. Across 184.2 innings and a 12-5 record so far, Nola has a 3.70 ERA with 207 Ks and 71 BBs.
The Red Sox are 17-8 in their last 25 in game one of a series and 4-1 in Rodriguez’s last five Saturday starts. Boston is 42-12 in Rodriguez’s last 54 starts and 21-6 in his last 27 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 3-9 in their last 12 Saturday games and 6-1 in Nola’s last seven Saturday starts. Philly is 0-4 in Nola’s last four starts and 0-5 in his last five with four days’ rest.
Rodriguez has had quite a bit of success on the mound lately, despite a tough-luck loss his last start (one earned; 6.0 innings). He’s got four quality starts in his last five tries.
As for Nola, he’s given up nine earned in his last two starts over 9.0 innings on 11 hits. I expect Nola to bounce back here but I’m still going with the Red Sox.
