Chicago Cubs (78-54) at Philadelphia Phillies (71-62)
|Date & Time||Friday August 31, 2018, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Philadelphia Phillies -101 / Chicago Cubs -109 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies will be meeting up at Citizens Bank Park on Friday to kick off their weekend MLB series.
The Cubs just finished a one-off game versus the Braves Thursday. In that one, Chicago edged out the Braves 5-4.
For Friday’s game, Chicago will be whipping out Jose Quintana. The lefty Quintana has 135.0 innings and a 11-9 mark this year, with a 4.33 ERA, 116 Ks and 60 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cubs this year is Javier Baez, with 145 hits, 81 runs, 28 homers and 97 RBI coming into Thursday. In the Braves game, Baez whiffed 0-for-4.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they played the Nats this week. Philly lost the first two games (by a combined three runs) but won Wednesday to stop the broom.
In the Friday opener, the Phillies will be bringing out Nick Pivetta. Across 136.0 innings and a 7-10 mark this year, Pivetta has a 4.76 ERA with 162 Ks and 38 BBs.
Philly’s lead hitters this season are Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera, tied with 128 hits apiece. Hernandez has 82 runs, 11 homers and 41 RBI while Herrera has 57 runs, 21 homers and 65 RBI.
The Cubs are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series. Chicago is also 5-2 in Quintana’s last seven starts with five days’ rest and 2-5 in his last seven road starts.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 1-4 in their last five games following an off day and 1-4 in their last five home games. Philly is also 0-7 in their last seven in game one of a series and 3-8 in their last 11 overall.
After giving up 10 earned across two starts, Quintana has calmed down with three earned over 10.0 innings in his last two outings. As for Pivetta, he’s coughed up 11 earned in his last 10.1 innings over two starts. This should be a good matchup if both pitchers are on, but I’m going to stick with the Cubs here.
