The Line: Philadelphia Phillies +135 / Cincinnati Reds -145 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Cincinnati Reds visit the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Cincinnati Reds have had little to cheer about in 2015 but are hoping a three game sweep of the mighty Nationals is the start of something big. The Red pounded the Nats 8-2 on Sunday for a sweep of their weekend series. Michael Lorenzen gave up both runs on a hit and six free passes over 6.1 frames for a no decision. The bats came to life on eight hits and four BB with Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier cracking homers and driving two runs each with each scoring twice. Jay Bruce also had a strong game with a pair of RBI’s and a run while walking twice. Ace Johnny Cueto looks to continue his strong work on the hill when he takes on the Phillies. Cueto is coming off of a 3-0 loss at Kansas City where he gave up all three runs on nine hits over seven innings.
The Philadelphia Phillies were enjoying a seven game win streak several weeks ago but have since fallen on hard times. The Phillies have dropped seven straight and nine of ten after a 4-1 loss to Colorado on Sunday. Starter Jerome Williams allowed all four runs on eight hits including a pair of homers over five frames to fall to 3-5. The offense totaled seven hits and walked once with Cameron Rupp tripling in Cody Asche who was 2-4 on the afternoon. The Phillies hand the ball to Sean O’ Sullivan who has faced Cincinnati once in his career. O’Sullivan suffered a 7-0 loss to the Mets in his last outing where he was charged with all seven runs on four homers in 5.2 frames.
Cincinnati are 7-1 in their last 8 Tuesday games and are 17-45 in their last 62 road games while going 21-9 in Cueto’s last 30 starts. Cincinnati are 11-23 in the last 34 meetings. My concern is Cueto’s ailing elbow isn’t 100% but I still have to go with the Reds…
