Philadelphia Phillies -130 / Colorado Rockies +120 O/U: 9
The Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies will match up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Friday.
The Rockies are coming off a pair of games at Fenway versus the Red Sox this week. Colorado took the first one Tuesday 5-4, but fell in a similar one-run loss 6-5 on Wednesday.
For the Friday game, the Rockies will be bringing out RHP Jon Gray for the start. In his 48.2 innings and 3-3 mark this year, Gray has a 4.25 ERA with 51 Ks and 19 BBs.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they just finished up against the Brewers. Philly took the first game of that set 7-4, but then lost the next pair 6-1 and 5-2. In Thursday’s finale, the Phillies lost again 11-3.
On Friday, the Phillies will be sending Cole Irvin to the mound for the start. Over 7.0 innings and a 1-0 record this year, Irvin has a 1.29 ERA with five Ks and one walk.
The Rockies are 4-1 in Gray’s last five starts and 5-2 in his last seven versus the NL East. Colorado is 5-2 in Gray’s last seven starts with four days’ rest and 1-4 in his last five starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 2-7 in their last nine in game one of a series and 1-8 in their last nine versus the NL West. The under is 4-0 in Philly’s last four games and 7-1 in their last eight in game one of a series.
We’ve only got the one appearance from Irvin to gauge from this year, but it was a good one. He logged just five hits in 7.0 innings with 93 pitches, an average of 13.3 per inning.
As for Gray, he had a couple of rough starts (10 earned in 10.1 innings) but otherwise has four quality starts in his last six tries. This should be an interesting pitching matchup, and I’m going with the Phillies in a close one.
