MLB | Miami Marlins (2-6) at Philadelphia Phillies (3-4)
USA TODAY Sports

Sunday afternoon out at Citizens Bank Park, the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies will be finishing up their MLB series.

Back on Thursday, the Phillies cruised to a 5-0 shutout win. In the Saturday game, Philadelphia kept it going by scoring 17 runs in the first four innings on the way to an embarrassing 20-1 victory.

For Sunday’s matchup, the Marlins will be rolling with RHP Trevor Richards. In his first start this year, Richards managed 4.1 innings and allowed five earned on eight hits.

Coming into the weekend, Starlin Castro was the top Marlins hitter on 10 hits, four RBI and four runs with 11 total bases and five strikeouts. In the Saturday game, Castro had one hit.

Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re going with ex-Cub Jake Arrieta on Sunday. In his 168.1 innings last year, Arrieta managed a 14-10 record with a 3.53 ERA and 163 Ks.

Leading the way for the Phillies heading into the weekend was Rhys Hoskins with eight hits, three runs, three doubles and three RBI. On Saturday, Philly ripped four home runs and Maikel Franco posted six RBI and three runs.

The Marlins are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and 2-7 in their last nine during game three of a series. The over is 7-1-2 in Miami’s last 10 in game three of a series and the Marlins are 1-5 in their last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 4-1 in the last five during game three of a series and 11-3 in their last 14 Sunday games. The under is 22-8-3 in Philadelphia’s last 33 Sunday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five during game three of a series.

Miami undoubtedly has the better offense between these two teams on paper, but they’re likely going to have to work overtime here with Richards on the mound. The jury’s still out on Arrieta’s post-Cubs career, but I think he’ll pitch well in this one and put Philly in a position to win. The ridiculous 20 runs on Saturday don’t hurt, either.

Pick:
Philadelphia Phillies -203
